Massachusetts House of Representatives adopts resolution on recognition of sovereignty of Nagorno- Karabakh

The House of Representatives of the State of Massachussetts, USA, adopted a resolution on recognition of Karabakh's independence.

The Office of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic in the United States reports that the document calls on the U.S. President Barack Obama and the Congress to support the sovereignty and independence of the NKR.

The resolution condemns the massacre of Armenians in the Azerbaijani towns of Sumgait, Kirovabad, Baku. The document stresses that Azerbaijan continues endangering the NKR's security with its anti- Armenian actions. The resolution also stresses the will of Karabakh people, who voted for independence, freedom and democracy of the NKR during the 10 Dec 1991 referendum. The document also points out the democratic achievements in the NKR, which are proved by the 19 July 2012 presidential elections in the republic.

Robert Avetisyan, Permanent Representative of the NKR to the USA, said that the adoption of the resolution demonstrates that the lawmakers of Massachusetts encourage the observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
