Sargsyan wants Aliev to win elections. Armenian President said A democratic Azerbaijan is preferable to us as neighbour and partner in talks

Armenia's President Serzh Sargsyan has hinted he prefers Ilham Aliyev to win in Azerbaijan's forthcoming presidential election since this offers the best hope of resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

"A democratic Azerbaijan is definitely preferable to us, as a neighbour, and especially as a partner in talks," President Sargsyan said whilst speaking at the end of a youth and sports festival. "I would not say that just now the negotiating process is active, nevertheless we have already walked quite a long road, and if after the elections Aliyev is able to demonstrate some will and rise above his usual Armenia-phobia, I think this is the most acceptable and preferable option for us."

US and Ukraine sign deal giving US access to country’s valuable mineral wealth

The United States and Ukraine have signed a minerals deal after a two-month delay, in what President Donald Trump's administration called a new form of US commitment to Kyiv after the end of military aid. Ukraine said it secured key interests after protracted negotiations, including full sovereignty over its own rare earths, which are vital for new technologies and largely untapped. Trump had initially demanded rights to Ukraine's mineral wealth as compensation for US weapons sent under former president Joe Biden after Russia invaded just over three years ago.
