Edward Shevardnadze, the former President of Georgia and ex Foreign Minister of the USSR has died in Tbilisi aged 86. Shevardnadze is credited to being one of the main architects of the end of the cold war, and in the 1990s as President of Georgia helped to save the country from civil war and chaos. He resigned in 2003 and has since lived a quiet life in his house in the Ktasnisi District of Tbilisi.
