Amongst the gloom of world economists Turkish officials were upbeat as they predicted 4% economic growth this year, and reported a swiftly increasing GDP per capita from some $3,000 in 2002 to around $10,000 last year.

It has been better known for its great parties and for its Gucci dressed leaders, so the sight of members of IRELI demonstrating on the streets of Baku to protest at the recent decision of the French senate criminalising the Armenian genocide is a good indicator of feelings in Baku on this issue.
