ArmInfo: Armenian FM meets with OSCE/ODIHR observers

Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan met on Thursday with the OSCE/ODIHR mission that will observe the Feb 18 presidential election in Armenia.

The press service of Armenia's Foreign Ministry reports that Nalbandyan confirmed the Armenian authorities' commitment to conduct a free and fair election.

The Armenian FM thanked the OSCE/ODIHR for assisting Armenia in improving its electoral system.

The head of the mission, Ambassador Heidi Tagliavini thanked Nalbandyan for the invitation to observe the forthcoming election and assured him that the monitoring will be unbiased. Tagliavini said that the mission will consist of 24 long-term and 250 short-term observers.

In the speech, the Norwegian Nobel Committee said that “she won for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy”. Machado was among 338 nominees for the Nobel Peace Prize and has become its 20th female laureate.
