Turkologist: Turkey wishes to overthrow Asad's regime so that to spread its influence in entire Middle East region

Turkey wishes to overthrow Asad's regime, as in that case Ankara will be able to spread its influence in entire Middle East region. For this reason, Ankara has been provoking NATO to attack Syria, Turkologist Hakop Chakryan said at today's press-conference.

He said that there are two Turkish teams in Syria acting against the ruling regime. He also added that Syrian authorities have been fighting the rebels and Qatar and Saudi Arabia have been arming Syrian opposition, which is not consolidated and consists of 16 groups. There is not a single opposition force able to overthrow Asad's regime, he said.

For his part, an expert Hayk Kocharyan, touching on the Turkish-Syrian relations, said that earlier the opposition Syrian National Council was set up just at the territory of Turkey. For this reason, Ankara is supporting Syrian opposition in their fight against Asad.

As for the problem of Syrian Armenians in the context of events in Syria, he said that they are not secure because of the war between different religious groups in this country. He also did not rule out repetition of the Lybian scenario in Syria.
