Joint Armenian-Azerbaijani Liaison Group (JOLIG)

 The Joint Armenian-Azerbaijani Liaison Group on Confidence-building measures in support of lasting peace in the South Caucasus (JOLIG), is an independent initiative bringing together Armenian and Azerbaijani experts in a framework facilitated by LINKS Europe and supported by the European Union. The members of the Group are Ahmad Alili (co-rapporteur); Mehman Aliyev, Stepan Grigorian, Taron Hovhanissian, Shahla Ismayil, Gevorg Melikyan, Johnny Melikyan; Benyamin Poghosyan (co-rapporteur), Ramazan Samadov and Anar Veliyev. All members of the group serve in a personal capacity. The Secretariat of the Group is provided by LINKS Europe.

A conference organised in The Hague by LINKS Europe Foundation brought together experts and activists from the South Caucasus, the European Union and beyond to discuss the current state of political transition in the region. The gathering gave particular attention to the European Union's evolving role in the region amidst rapidly changing domestic and regional dynamics as well as Türkiye's influence as a regional power.

“The EU has a profound interest in the security, stability and prosperity of the South Caucasus region as an integral part of the EU Eastern Partnership”. This was stated by the Head of the Cabinet of the European Council president, Charles Michel, in a letter to the three co-rapporteurs of ‘the Joint Liaison Group on confidence building measures in support of lasting peace in the South Caucasus’

Armenian and Azerbaijani experts say they are on schedule to publish their report on CBMs in March

Rapporteurs say Armenian and Azerbaijani experts working on a report on how short, medium and long-term confidence building measures can contribute to lasting peace in the South Caucasus are on schedule to publishing their report next March. The group is currently engaging with both governmental and non-governmental stakeholders, and a number of interim discussion papers will also be published over the next weeks.
