An Armenian soldier from a military unit situated in the northern direction of the line of contact separating Armenian and Azerbaijani forces was shot dead while on combat duty on March 19, according to reports in the Armenian media, citing the Defense Ministry of the self-declared Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR). The killed soldier was named as Arman Ghukasyan born in 1994.
NKR President Bako Sahakyan on Wednesday signed a decree awarding posthumously a Medal for Service in Battle to Arman Ghukasyan "for his bravery shown while defending the state border", according to the President's press service.
Meanwhile, according to media reports, an Armenian officer was also wounded in an incident that took place in Martakert. The officer was transported to Stepanakert's hospital where he underwent surgery and is now reported to be in a stable condition.
There have been no direct comments on the incidents from the Azerbaijani side but on Wednesday the Azerbaijani media quoting the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry, accused the Armenian side of cease fire violations near the villages of Garagashli, Bash Garvand in the Agdam region,and the villages of Garakhanbayli, Goradiz Ashagi Vaysalli in the Fizuli region and as well as in mountain areas in Goranboy and Khojavand regions. The Ministry said that "enemy was silenced by response fire".
