Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that in the event of a possible escalation of the situation in the Taiwan Strait, Russia will support the People's Republic of China in preserving its state unity and territorial integrity.
He made this statement to the TASS news agency, in an interview dedicated to the results of 2025.
"If we are talking about a possible escalation of the situation in the Taiwan Strait, the rules of action in such cases are reflected in the Treaty on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation with the People's Republic of China dated July 16, 2001, which is the main document for bilateral relations. One of the main principles enshrined in this document is mutual support in matters of protecting state unity and territorial integrity," Sergey Lavrov noted.
