The Armenian community in Iran has started its Christmas celebrations. The Armenian Apostolic Church marks Christmas on the 6 January.
The Iranian newspaper Tehran Times has published pictures of the Armenian community as it started its Christmas celebrations last weekend. The pictures were taken on Saturday night at Saint Sarkis Cathedral in Tehran where Armenians gathered to celebrate the beginning of the New Christian Year. It is estimated that there are around 150,000 Armenians living in Iran - half of them in Tehran. They constitute the single largest religious minority in the country.
