EU Council president: Civilians must be protected

The president of the European Council, Charles Michel, has spoken on the phone with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan insisting that civilians caught in the current conflict must be protected.

Michel expressed his deep concern over large scale escalation in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone.

He condemned use of force and called for immediate cease-fire. Michel insisted that negotiations are only way forward and expressed his support for the peace efforts led by the OSCE Minsk Group.
