Elections for Mayors and Municipal authorities will be held in Georgia on 21 October

The president of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili has issued a decree setting the 21 October as the date for local elections to elect Mayors and municipal authorities. The decree was also countersigned by Prime Minitser Giorgi Kvirikashvili.

The elections will provide the first electoral test to the Georgian Dream government led by Kvirikashvili since the landslide victory in parliamentary elections in October 2016. All eyes are likely to be on the important vote for mayor of Tbilisi where a number of opposition candidates will challenge the candidacy of the Georgian Dream candidate Kakha Kaladze, who recently resigned from the position of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy to run in the poll.
