Croatia reintroduces a two-month military service from next year. The country is taking the measure because of heightened tensions in Europe and the Balkans following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
"The modernisation and equipping of the armed forces is proceeding according to plan and in line with the agreement with our allies and NATO leadership," Defence Minister Ivan Anusic told Croatian broadcaster RTL.
The measure will require Croatians to serve two months in the service from 1 January. There had been talk of reintroduction for some time, but so now a definite date has been set.
