Armenian soldier killed on Karabakh line of contact on Sunday night

A 21 year old Armenian soldier was killed on Sunday night (22 January) on the eastern side line of contact in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. he was named as Karen Ulubabyan (born in 1995), a member of the military formation of the self-declared Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. The incident happened shortly before midnight.

Armenian sources accused Azerbaijan of violating the cease fire 55 times, from late Sunday night to early Monday morning. Military source in Karabakh told Armenian media "the Azerbaijani armed forces fired about 430 shots toward the Armenian position-holders, primarily with different-caliber shooting weapons, including 92 sniper shots and 2 mortar shells."

On its part, Azerbaijan says that Armenian forces violated the ceasefire 36 times from Sunday to Monday.

They report incidents in several parts of the line of contact, but report no casualties.

An OSCE Team is expected to monitor the line of contact tomorrow (Tuesday, 24 January).
