Armenian FM: Armenia advocates exclusively peaceful measures to resolve conflict over Iran

Armenia advocates exclusively peaceful measures to resolve the conflict over Iran, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan said during a joint press-conference with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on Monday.

Lavrov believes that the conflict must be resolved by peaceful means only as war would be a real disaster for both Armenia and Azerbaijan:  for the latter the inflow of refugees from Northern Iran, where there are thrice as many Azeris, would be an inevitable and very negative consequence.

Concerning the Istanbul meeting of the "friends of Syria," Lavrov said that Russia has received an invitation to that meeting but has  declined it.

"Our position is that this meeting should involve all conflicting parties rather than just the opposition. Moreover, it may wreck Kofi Annan's plan. Russia supports all the six points of the plan and is against any ultimatums. This conflict will be resolved only if both conflicting parties sit at the negotiating table," Lavrov said.

Chinese using Linkedin to recruit agents in UK

An alert issued to MPs, peers and parliamentary staff by security services identified two LinkedIn profiles, which it says are used on behalf of the Chinese Ministry of State Security (MSS). UK Security minister Dan Jarvis has said the government will not tolerate "covert and calculated" attempts to interfere with the UK's sovereign affairs, after MI5 warned MPs of the risk from Chinese spies. Jarvis announced a package of measures in the House of Commons to tackle espionage threats to the UK.
