13 September: EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, and US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, have written a joint letter to Ukrainian President Yanokovich expressing concern about the trail of former Prime Minister Yuli

According to Press agency reports the letter was sent on Friday. EU diplomatic sources sare quoted as saying that the contents of the letter are confidential but it expresses concern “over a possible presence of political motivations” in the course of consideration of the case by the judges.

Borrell underlined that the European Union will make every effort to support the peace process and to remain a committed partner to the Afghan people. "Of course, we will have to take into account the evolving situation, but disengagement is not an option.  We are clear on that: there is no alternative to a negotiated political settlement, through inclusive peace talks.
