The three gunmen attacked Savarbek Matiyev at his house at 10:50 pm local time (18:50 GMT), the source said. The police officer died at the scene.

Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan met his military chiefs yesterday as tension rises with Kurdish rebels in the South east of the country and problems in neighboring Syria threaten to spill over. The Turkish military is thought to be on high alert and reservist officers have been called back for duty.
