Turkmen president in Baku

The President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has arrived in Baku on an official visit. He was welcomed in a ceremony at the presidential palace by Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev.

Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are both Caspian littoral countries. The two countries are currently exploring ways in which they can increase their co-operation, especially through the use of Azerbaijani infrastructure for the transportation of Turkmen energy resources to Europe.

The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Venezuelan Politician Maria Corina Machado

Today (10 October), the Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado for the Nobel Peace Prize. In the speech, the Norwegian Nobel Committee said that “she won for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy”. Machado was among 338 nominees for the Nobel Peace Prize and has become its 20th female laureate.
