Britain is in mourning following the announcement yesterday of the death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh and lifelong consort of Queen Elizabeth. He died peacefully at Windsor Castle at the venerable age of 99.
Tributes have been pouring in from across the country and across the world for a man who is seen to have dedicated his whole and long life to the service of his Queen and his country.
Gun salutes will fired today in all four nations of the United Kingdom and from British navy ships. Prince Philip served in the Navy when he was young, and held the title of Lord High Admiral.
There will be no state funeral or laying in state, but a ceremonial funeral, likely in the form of a military funeral, will take place at Windsor Castle next week.
