One person has been killed and at least six others injured in a shooting in Yerevan, according to Armenia’s Health Ministry. The incident took place in the afternoon of Wednesday 18 February in the Ajapnyak district of the Armenian capital.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs said police officers are carrying out urgent investigative measures to establish the circumstances of the incident. The authorities have not yet clarified the number of suspects involved or their motives.
Local media reported that up to ten people may have been wounded in the shooting. The Armenia Medical Centre said seven people were admitted to hospital, one of whom later died. Two of the injured were reported to be in extremely critical condition, while others remain in serious but stable condition.
Police said they are working to identify those injured and to establish the ownership of a vehicle found at the scene bearing bullet damage. A criminal investigation has been launched on charges including attempted murder and the illegal possession and use of weapons.
