The 18th Mid-term Ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement kicked off in Baku on Thursday (5 April) with a speech by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. Representatives of 120 countries and a number of observer states are participating.
The theme of the meeting is "Promoting International Peace and Security for Sustainable Development". Around 800 participants are attending the meeting which is being held at the Baku Congress Center.
The Ministerial Meeting is in preparation for the next summit of the heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement, which will be held in Baku in 2019. At that point Azerbaijan will take over the Chairmanship of the global organisation for the next three years.
