As part of measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus the Georgian Army has been confined to barracks by orders of the Defence Minister Irakli Garibashvili. The Minister said that the reason was to lessen the chances of infection by COVID-19 in the armed forces and had been taken in consultation with the Co-ordination Council that is currently co-ordinating the country's response to the coronavirus crisis.
As of today all flights in and out of Georgia have also been cancelled. Georgian Airlines has sent 95% of its workforce home on unpaid leave.
