Georgia celebrates independence day

Georgia is on Tuesday (26 May) marking the 102nd anniversary of the declaration of independence in 1918.

Prime Minister Giorgi Gaharia is expected to visit the Vaziani military base close to Tbilisi for a military ceremony is expected to take place. But celebrations this year will overall be more subdued than usual as the country is still sl;owly emerguing from a tough lockdown regime that was imposed in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Georgia was able to contain the pandemic quite effectively but the government has advised against complacency.
