A 20 year old Armenian soldier serving with the military formations of the self-declared Nagorno-Karabakh Republic was killed on Monday evening, most likely as a result of sniper fire. No details are available but both Armenian and Azerbaijani military sources have confirmed the incident. The Karabakh conflict zone remains tense after incidents last week in which two Azerbaijani civilians, including a two year old baby, lost their lives.
Officials of both sides also continue to exchange sharp comments through the media and in international fora. Kremlin spokesperson Dimitri Peskov on Monday called on all parties to exercise restraint and to abide by existing agreements.
