The Armenian government has declared a 30 day state of emergency in response to the Coronavirus pandemic. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers chaired by prime minister Nikol Pashinyan on Monday morning. It will come into effect at 18.30 on the same day and last for one month."A state of emergency is declared in the Republic of Armenia from March 16, 2020, from 18:30 hours, until April 14, 2020, 17:00 hours," the draft decision of the Government of the Republic of Armenia says.
A co-ordination council was established under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan, to manage all aspects of the state of emergency. It includes various Ministers and senior officials.
Under the state of emergency all public events are prohibited.
The State of Emergency will now have to be approved by the Armenian Parliament. A special session of the National Assembly has been scheduled for later in the day.
Armenia currently has 30 confirmed cases of corona virus, but dozens of others are in quarantine pending testing.
