Azebaijan president, Ilham Aliyev met with the president of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, in Tianjin, China, on Sunday, 31 August
Welcoming the Azerbaijani leader, president Xi stressed that successful cooperative relations have been established between Azerbaijan and China for more than 30 years and that relations are currently developing at the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership, Xi Jinping recalled with satisfaction President Ilham Aliyev's state visit to the People's Republic of China and touched upon the importance of the discussions held within the framework of this visit.
President Xi remarked that Azerbaijan-China cooperation has been strengthened within the framework of the "One Belt, One Road" project, he noted the importance of transporting Chinese goods through the territory of Azerbaijan, and touched upon the importance of the Trans-Caspian route in this regard.
The President of the People's Republic of China stated that his country supports the expansion of Azerbaijan's relations with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Xi Jinping noted the importance of direct dialogue between Azerbaijan and Armenia to ensure lasting peace. The President of the People's Republic of China also said that China supports Azerbaijan’s sovereign development model, emphasizing that China is committed to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.
President Ilham Aliyev, in turn, recalled with satisfaction his state visit to the People's Republic of China, noting that his meetings with Xi Jinping and the dialogue held during the visit gave a serious impetus to the comprehensive development of cooperation between the two countries, and emphasized the importance of the signed document on a comprehensive strategic partnership.
The President of Azerbaijan stated that developing relations with the People's Republic of China is one of the priority directions in our country's foreign policy.
The Head of State noted that Azerbaijan supports China's position on the issues of Taiwan, Hong Kong and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and was one of the first countries to condemn the elections held in Taiwan.
President Ilham Aliyev said that a significant increase has been observed in trade relations between the two countries. Touching upon the "One Belt, One Road" project, he assessed the increase in transportation, especially Chinese cargo, through the Middle Corridor, which is an important component of it and passes through the territory of Azerbaijan, as an example of the efficiency and attractiveness of this corridor.
President Ilham Aliyev also said that negotiations on the normalization and peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia are being conducted on a bilateral basis, emphasizing that peace has already been established between the two countries.
During the conversation, a broad exchange of views was held on the prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and China.
