Low level fighting continued between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the Line of Contact this weekend, with one Azerbaijani soldier killed.
The border saw four days of fierce fighting at the beginning of April, the worst for two decades, resulting in dozens of casualties. A Russian-brokered ceasefire on April 5 put an end to the heaviest fighting, but sporadic outbreaks continue daily.
Ceasefire violations have been reported by both sides every night, as well as occasional casualties. Serviceman Ali Heydarov was reported dead by Azerbaijan’s defence ministry on Sunday following a shootout.
Meanwhile, the defence ministry of the self-declared Nagorno-Karabakh Republic accused Azerbaijan of breaching the ceasefire agreement.
“Azerbaijani forces continued violating the ceasefire agreement by firing various caliber weapons, 60mm and 82mm mortars, RPG-7 and AGS-17 grenade launchers,” it said in a statement.
“The Armed Forced of Nagorno Karabakh are in control of the situation and continue monitoring the borders.”
