The Bonn international center of conversion has published the annual ‘Global militarization index’.
According to it, Azerbaijan is among top ten of the most militarized countries of the world.
According to Newsru, the militarization index is defined as correlation of the defence budget of the state and its gross domestic product.
Also the costs for education, public health and a number of other factors are taken into account.
The document notes the rapid armament of Azerbaijan and Armenia which gives the ground to fear the resumption of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. Other dangerous points are related to territorial disputes towards China and its neighbors.
Though China is 82 by the degree of militarization, its military budget of $129m is second in the world.
Turkey is 24th with 609 points, Iraq is 26th, Egypt is 28th. United States with the highest defence budget in the world has the militarization rating of $689bn-29th place with 591 points.
