The Government will adopt a program to fight emigration, Chief of the State Migration Service of Armenia's Territorial Administration Ministry Gagik Yeganyan said Wednesday after a meeting with the President of Armenia.
"The President has instructed us to systematically provide people with emigration statistics so they are aware of the real situation," Yeganyan said.
According to him, 75% of emigrants say that the key reason forcing them to leave their country is unemployment and low wages. "So, in its fight with emigration the Government will give priority to these problems. We will also try to create favorable moral-psychological conditions," Yeganyan said.
He denied rumors about all-time high emigration rate. Referring to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, he said that 144,614 people left Armenia in Mar 2011 (40.6% more than in Feb 2011), 70,853 of them being foreign citizens. 136,2137 people came to Armenia during the same period. 74,035 were foreigners.
