American congressman condemns extradition and pardoning of Ramil Safarov

The authorities of Armenia are resolute to extend partnership with USA, speaker of the Armenian parliament, Hovik Abrahamyan, said over today's meeting with American congressman Dan Barton. He also added it is necessary to deepen bilateral relations in the sphere of security, trade and economy and culture and education.

Touching on extradition and pardoning of the Azerbaijani criminal Ramil Safarov, Abrahamyan said that this step by the Hungarian authorities contradicts international conventions, moral and ethnic norms, and has seriously damaged the efforts  directed to establishment of peace and stability in the region.

For his part, US Congressman Dan Barton said that development of relations with Armenia is of a great significance for the USA. He emphasized the necessity of enhancing the inter-parliamentary relations. Mr.Barton also condemned extradition and pardoning of
Ramil Safarov and promised to disseminate in the US Congress the statement regarding Safarov's extradition, made by the Armenian
parliament yesterday.
