The first world war lasted from 28 July 1914 to 11 November 1918. 70 million military personnel took part in the fighting, making it one of the largest wars in history. An estimated nine million combatants and seven million civilians died as a direct result of the war.

Ukraine signs agreement with the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople

The Government of Ukraine and the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople have signed an agreement on co-operation and collaboration. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I signed the agreement in Istanbul on Saturday during the official visit of president Poroshenko to Turkey.
