"Georgia is a core country of the South Caucasus. It is not possible to visualise the region without Georgia."

This was stated by Dr Dennis Sammut, Executive Director of LINKS Europe at the opening of the 2nd South Caucasus Regional Dialogue Forum which was held in Tbilisi on 28 October 2025.

Dr Sammut said that at the moment the attention was rightly on Armenia and Azerbaijan, because of their historic decision to end the conflict between them, and embark on a peaceful trajectory that can change the whole region for the better. Also the current policies of the Georgian government makes engaging with Georgia increasingly problematic.

But none of this changes the fact that Georgia is a core South Caucasus country, and it is not possible to visualise or talk of the region without Georgia at its heart.

Dr Sammut announced that the 3rd South Caucasus dialogue forum will be held in Yerevan in 2026, and the 4th will be held in Baku in 2027. In this LINKS Europe will accompany the process within the European Political Community, which is expected to meet in the two countries in 2026 and 2027.

But Dr Sammut assured that at both events a strong Georgian participation will be ensured.

Borrell tells the European Parliament that the situation in Afghanistan was critical, but the EU will remain engaged

Borrell underlined that the European Union will make every effort to support the peace process and to remain a committed partner to the Afghan people. "Of course, we will have to take into account the evolving situation, but disengagement is not an option.  We are clear on that: there is no alternative to a negotiated political settlement, through inclusive peace talks.
