Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia were amongst the countries that sent their condolences, as well as offers of assistance to the Turkish authorities. Similar offers were made by European countries and NATO.

Mongolia has managed its relations with its two giant neighbours, Russia and China, successfully.

They later crossed the line seperating Armenian and Azerbaijani forces and travelled on to Baku.

Karabakh conflict settlement and confidence building measures were discussed

After nine rounds of voting in the General Assembly the election of a non permanent member of the UN Security Council was inconclusive. Despite getting 113 votes, against Slovenia's 77, Azerbaijan fell short of the two thirds majority required. The voting resumes on Monday.

The Russian President said that ‘the resolution of this complex but solvable problem depends on the good will of the two peoples and the two presidents, on whether they listen more to each other, make concessions and find a compromise”.
