At the end of a tense week which saw Turkey's most senior generals resign, Prime Minister Recip Tayip Erdogan has clearly asserted the control of the civilian government over the military. After appointing a new leadership for the Armed Forces the government is now turning its attention back to a deteriorating security situation in the Kurdish areas.

The Ambassador also said that an agreement on the long standing dispute between Turkey and Azerbaijan on gas supplies was expected to be signed in September.
