Russian President Vladimir Putin is due to arrive in Beijing on Tuesday (19 May), following last week’s summit between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Putin aide Yuri Ushakov said on Monday (18 May) that the visit would have a “very busy” programme. Putin is expected to arrive in Beijing on Tuesday evening, where he will be welcomed at the airport by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Communist Party’s Politburo, alongside an honour guard and children taking part in the reception ceremony.
According to Ushakov, Putin and Xi will discuss “the most important and sensitive issues” in Russian-Chinese relations. The Russian delegation will include deputy prime ministers, presidential administration officials, federal ministers, and representatives of major businesses.
The two leaders are expected to sign a joint statement on strengthening their comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation, as well as deepening neighbourly relations, friendship, and cooperation. They will also adopt a joint declaration on building a multipolar world and a new type of international relations, before making statements to the media.
