Armenian president visits Karabakh

Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan is in Nagorno-Karabakh where he is due to participate in the 25th anniversary of declaration of independence by the self-declared Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.

Sargsyan travelled to Stepanakert on an Armenian military helicopter and was met at the airport by NKR President Bako Sahakyan.

Some Armenian newspaper earlier suggested that this year's celebrations marking NKR secession from Azerbaijan and declaration of independence will be more low key than usual due to the heavy loss of life suffered during the short intensification of fighting between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces in April. Azerbaijan has described the planned festivities as a provocation.
