Edward Shevardnadze, the former President of Georgia and ex Foreign Minister of the USSR has died in Tbilisi aged 86. Shevardnadze is credited to being one of the main architects of the end of the cold war and in the 1990s as President of Georgia helped to save the country from civil war and chaos. He resigned in 2003 and has since lived a quiet life in his house in the Ktasnisi District of Tbilisi.

Armenian sources say that two Armenian soldiers were killed, one close to Nagorno-Karabakh territory and one near the region of Ararat. Meanwhile Azerbaijani media sources say that a number of civilians were injured in the village of Alibeyli in the Tovuz Region of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone as a result of Armenian weapon fire. The injured are in a stable condition and there has been no report of the incident from the Armenian side. The village of Alibeyli has been the scene of other similar incidents in recent months.
