Turkmenistan President in Baku

The President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has arrived in Baku for talks with the leadership of Azerbaijan.

President Berdimuhamedov on Tuesday (8 August) held one-to-one talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The two presidents were afterwards joined by officials for an extended plenary session.

Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are both Caspian littoral countries and have been discussing ambitious projects aimed at facilitating the transportation of Turkmen energy resources to world markets. For the moment Turkmenistan depends heavily on northern land routes through Russia.
