On Monday (30 March), Turkey's Defense Ministry said that NATO air defences shot down a ballistic missile fired from Iran over Turkish airspace.
The ministry did not provide details on the missile’s trajectory, type, or intended target, and said all necessary measures were being taken against threats to Türkiye’s territory and airspace and that developments in the region were being closely monitored.
This is the fourth time since March that an Iranian missile has been intercepted on its way to or within Turkish airspace.
Türkiye is a member of NATO, and Secretary General Mark Rutte previously commented on the first interception on 5 March in a Reuters interview:
"Nobody's talking about Article 5... The most important thing is that our adversaries have seen yesterday that NATO is so strong and so vigilant," he said.
