An Azerbaijani scientist has warned of the consequences of global warming on the Caspian Sea and its environs. Academician Ramiz Mammadov, Director of the Institute of Georgaphy discussed the subject during a scientific conference entitled "The organization and management of natural-agricultural systems in arid regions of Azerbaijan".
The academician stated that the area of saline land and desertification process due to global warming will increase, water shortages will occur and water of rivers will decrease due to reduction of rainfall. "The evaporation in the Caspian will increase, there will be the possibility of drought for more than 50-60 days in the Kur-Araz lowland", Mammadov told the conference.
