Azerbaijan is marking the anniversary of the massacre of civilians in the town of Khojaly in 1992. A national march was held in Baku on Tuesday (26 February) in connection with the 27th anniversary of the events that occurred in Khojaly, as Armenian military formations took over the town, during some of the ugliest pages in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Azerbiajni president Ilham Aliyev, First Lady and Vice President, Mehriban Aliyeva and other officials, led the procession through the streets of central Baku. Thousands of people joined the march, which has become an annual event to mark the anniversary of the tragedy, and those killed in it which included many civilians including women and children and old people.
President Ilham Aliyev laid a wreath at the memorial, honouring the memory of the victims of the Khojaly tragedy.
