Armenian soldier killed in Karabakh amidst reports of sporadic incidents

Armenian media reports that a soldier serving with the Armenian army, 20 year old conscript Narek Harutyunyan, was killed on Monday, 9 April at about 14:20 in the southern section of the line of contact in the Karabakh conflict zone. Armenian sources say that Harutyunyan was killed by Azerbaijani army fire.

The report follows various report from Armenian sources over the weekend of incidents on the line of contact in the Karabakh conflict zone, and on the Armenia-Azerbaijan international border. No casualties were reported in the earlier events, but farmers reported that some cattle were killed as they grazed in open fields.

On Monday the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence denied any violation of the cease fire and said that Armenia was preparing for a provocation, which it promised to respond to forcefully.
