A vote by the UN Security Council on a resolution about the Strait of Hormuz was expected today - but a UN official has confirmed that it will not take place as planned. The postponement came amid reports that Russia, China and France were objecting to some of the language of a draft resolution prepared by the chair of the Security Council for the month of April, Bahrain
No date has officially been set for the vote, according to UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric.
Bahrain, which currently holds the council presidency, put forward the resolution. It would authorise member states “to use all defensive means necessary and commensurate with the circumstances” to secure transit passage in the Strait of Hormuz for at least six months.
Earlier this week Bahrain was also forced to tone down a Presidential Statement that deal with the same topic. You can read more about that here.
