Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni on Monday (7 November) held talks with the president of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliev shortly after arriving in Baku on the second lap of his trip to the South Caucasus.
Gentiloni earlier was in Georgia where he met Georgian officials, including Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili. Gentiloni expressed full support for Georgia's sovereignity, territorial integrity and euro-atlantic asspirations after talks with the Georgian leader.Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said he will visit Italy in January next year and he hopes the trip will stimulate "new economic and cultural relations" between the two nations.
Both officials said despite current close bilateral ties in many sectors, there was "huge potential" for Georgia and Italy to enhance relations in economic and tourism directions.
In Baku, Gentiloni is expected to meet other Azerbaijani officials before travelling on to Yerevan.
