A DHL cargo plane crashed near the Lithuanian capital Vilnius on Monday morning (25 November). One of the passengers died in the crash. He was reportedly a Spaniard. Three other crew members were injured. This was reported by Lithuanian media, including public broadcaster LRT.
The Airbus 737 was flying from the German city of Leipzig. The plane belonged to the Spanish company Swiftair. It landed in the garden of a residential complex near Vilnius airport. Residents told LRT of a "shaking ground" and a "bright flash" that allegedly lit up the area at around 05:30. A fire broke out in the adjacent residential building. The 12 residents were evacuated.
The cause of the crash remains unclear. Lithuanian authorities are investigating the accident. The most likely cause is technical or human error, police told LRT.
