Azerbaijan has new foreign minister

Jeyhun Bayramov has been appointed as the new foreign minister of Azerbaijan. This comes after the dismissal of the Elmar Mammadyarov who had been in the post since 2003. Until now Bayramov was the Education Minister.

Rumours about the dismissal of Mammadyarov had been circulating for some days. In a session of the Azerbaijan Government on 15 July president Ilham Aliyev spoke at length about the ongoing hostilities with Armenia. During his intervention the president was very critical of the Azerbaijani foreign ministry, and personally of the foreign minister Elmar Mammadyarov.
