Armenian parliamentary factions hold consultations ahead of Tuesday's vote

The leader of Armenia's popular protests movement will on Monday (30 April) take his message to the country's parliament, meeting with the other factions represented there, ahead of a crucial vote on Tuesday to elect a new prime minister.

Nikol Pashinyan on Sunday called on his supporters not to take to the streets on Monday morning whilst the consultations are ongoing.

Two opposition factions, Prosperous Armenia and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation have so far indicated that they will heed the call of the masses of people that have been protesting in the streets of Yerevan and other cities over the last twelve days, and vote for Pashinyan to assume the premiership. The big question will be whether the ruling Republican Party of Armenia, which has been rattled by the street protests, and which saw its leader resigning as prime minister last week, will endorse Pashinyan too, even if reluctantly.
