The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has moved the Champions League final to Paris. The final, which remains scheduled to take place on 28 May, was previously scheduled to take place in the Russian city of St Petersburg. The UEFA confirmed this in a statement on Friday (25 February), after an emergency meeting was held to "evaluate the situation" concerning Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
In the meeting, UEFA also decided that Russian and Ukrainian clubs participating in UEFA competitions must play their home matches at "neutral venues". This means that no football matches may be played in Russia or Ukraine in the coming period. The association does not rule out further measures due to the crisis in Ukraine.
The Russian professional football club from Moscow FC Spartak Moscow will remain in the Europa League, the lottery for which will be held on Friday, and Russia and Ukraine will play in the World Cup playoffs next month - although the decision lies with FIFA. In June, Russia and Ukraine are due to play matches in the Uefa Nations League.
