Russia's 102nd military base stationed in the town of Gyumri in Armenia will almost double its combat potential after it is rearmed with new and upgraded weapon systems, Base Commander Colonel Nikolai Martynyuk stated on Tuesday (29 October) during a visit by Russian Defence Minister, Sergei Shoigu.
Shoigu inspected the base during the visit. He was accompanied by the Chief of Staff of Russia's Southern Military District Lieutenant-General Sergei Kuzovlev.
During his one day visit to Armenia the Russian Defence Minister is also expected to meet with the Armenian prime minister, Nikol Pashinyan.
