Poroshenko said Ukraine ready to terminate treaty of friendship with Russia

Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko said that Ukraine will not put up with Russian encroachment on Ukrainian interests in the Sea of Azov. Addressing a meeting of heads of Ukrainian diplomatic missions overseas the Ukrainian leader said "I firmly believe that the current situation is categorically unacceptable," adding that he had already instructed to prepare a meeting of the National Security and Defence Council on this issue.

"The illegal and insidious actions of Moscow in this region should not and will not remain unpunished, and even more so, without an adequate international response. And here I need your help," the President told the gathered Ukrainian ambassadors.

President Poroshenko instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to prepare proposals to ensure Ukrainian interests on the issue of the Sea of Azov.

President Poroshenko also said that Ukraine is ready for the termination of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between Ukraine and Russia.

"Today, we are prepared enough and legally secured for the next step - the termination of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between Ukraine and Russia, which has long been an anachronism because of Moscow," the President stated.

The President said he expects the necessary package of documents from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in the near future to begin the implementation of this process.
